Space Branding
Pet Sounds

Pet Sounds is a mixed-media installation in the heart of Madison Square Park, created by Charles Long. This is an interactive installation where unusually, organic forms come together to form a living space. As seen in the images, these forms transform from railing to blob-like sculptures that sit along the park benches and tables.

The overall installation forms an enclosed oasis of interactive forms, that when touched, the forms come alive and respond with sounds of various insects and animals in an environment. These blobs have a strong presence in the middle of the meadow, and their unusual forms invite people to touch, listen and see others interact within the enclosed space. Interestingly, these forms almost look invasive to the picnic table environment or the benches people are sitting on; however, we must not forget that the sculptures got there first to invite people into ‘their’ space.

As a work of art, Long’s installation evokes emotional connection with those using their 5 senses to connect and further their wonderment. This reminds us of the importance of sensorial branding, which not only connects with people at a more physiological level but keeps them curious in all facets.
