Physical Graffitea
– Vintage Clothing Shop Turned Tea Shop
After 16 years of business as a vintage clothing shop
called ‘Physical Graffiti’ in the East Village apartment building at 96 St.
Marks Place, the building of which was featured on the cover
of Led Zepplin’s sixth album called ‘Physical Graffitti,’
the clothing shop recently reopened as a loose leaf tea shop.
The storeowner, Ilana Malka, shut down her clothing business
as the market for vintage clothing wasn’t looking up.
Her newly opened tea shop in the same location,
retains the history and pop culture of Led Zepplin’s time
in its shop name,‘Physical GraffiTea.’
The subtle change from ‘Physical Graffiti,’
initially inspired by Zepplin’s album,
to ‘Physical GraffiTea’ speaks to the underlying love for rock
and roll music that continues to live within the East Village neighborhood.
